About this journey

World Ride 4 Hope, a journey home from the Middle East...

This week the Broekhuijsen family has started the World Ride 4 Hope.

The family: father Thijs, mother Mary, son Onno (15) and daughter Noëlle (just turned 14), will pack their car and drive from their current home in Bahrain back to Holland. For this journey they will travel through Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Iran, Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Czech Republic and Germany. In view of recent riots in Bahrain the eldest son Niels (18) returned to Holland with his brother Onno in March 2011 to prepare for his school exams. Niels coordinates the family’s journey from their new home in Leiden. Onno has returned to Bahrain again to embark on the World Ride 4 Hope to Holland.

After 10 years and 3 job postings abroad, the family decided to offer the children the opportunity to include their own home country on their ‘list of postings’. The moment to go home has come now. Mother Mary: “We have seen and done so many things, absorbed as much as we could from other cultures, and truly enjoyed everything that came with living at special places. But now our home country and a ‘normal’ family life are calling”.

This journey home will be the end of an expatriation episode for the family. They have decided to dedicate this special overland trip to a good cause. The World Ride 4 Hope will collect money for the foundation STOPhersentumoren.nl. This foundation supports medical research to fight brain tumors. Amongst children and young adults brain tumors are the most lethal form of cancer. The Broekhuijsen family warmly welcomes your contribution to this common good cause.

The journey over about 10.000 kilometers will take about one month. For further information, donations en a travel blog please visit: www.WorldRide4Hope.nl
